Channels
Immersive Installation
In traditional Chinese medicine, ‘channels’ connect different parts of the body and maintain vitality. Similarly, the public transportation system functions as a ‘channel’ that determines how people exist in and connect with a city.
Using the diagnostic framework of traditional Chinese medicine — observation, listening, inquiry and touch — the work examines the interaction between myself, as someone from the “East,” and Western urban infrastructure, as well as the sense of disorientation that emerges. These observations are transformed into a spatial narrative documenting how an “outsider” attempts to explore connections with the city.
